Wood turning is, in simplistic terms, about taking a piece of timber
and transforming it into an artistic object, even if that artistry is only
in the eyes of the person who made it!

Making shapes, some artistic, and achieving the desired results
means that you have to understand
"tooling".

In layman terms it is about selecting the wood and showing off the
grain, and the correct tool for the turning operation, then how you
hold the tool, positioning the body correctly, getting the angle of the
tool to the material correct; achieving the motion required to get the
desired slicing or peeling cut to form a cove, a bead or a cylinder;
having the correct grind angle on the tool and knowing how to
sharpen it.

A lot of techniques to master and remember, but all too often
inadvertently forgotten!

So it is easy to appreciate how Craig Jackson, the founder of EWT,
felt when he took up wood turning as a form of relaxation having
spent a life time as a metal machinist.

He discovered the problems that the vast majority find when they
take up wood turning, so his relaxation went out the window.
Naturally he reflected on his metal machining experience and
contemplated how to apply that to his new wood turning hobby.

It is funny how sometimes it needs someone not involved on a day
to day basis with a subject to come along and to look at the bigger
picture and then adapt and apply the technology and techniques
from another industry. That was exactly what Craig Jackson did!

What was not new to wood turning was Craig's use of carbide tipped
cutters on gouges, however what was new is what Craig refers to as
the
"3 G Factors".

These are the Grade of Carbide, the Grind Finish applied to the
tungsten carbide cutting head and the
Geometry of the cutting
head plus the fact they are now being used on the primary wood
turning tools i.e. the roughing, detailing and finishing gouges.

Previously this technology had been used on high end "hollowing"
tools and also on "shear scrapers" used by professional and serious
amateur woodturners. So now these
Easy Wood Tools have Patent
Pending Approval status in the USA
, as a result of their use of this
revolutionary approach taken with this product's cutting technology.

Reducing the inherent fear that many people have when they start
out woodturning is very laudable; just remember you are asking a
person to push a tool into a fast rotating piece of wood, scary when
you do it with an instructor. Much worse when your on your own back
in your workshop.

So if someone can demystify and simplify tooling then we all win
and that is exactly what we believe Craig Jackson, the owner and
designer of the Easy Wood Tools® range has done.

What he has achieved with the Easy Rougher, Easy Detailer and
the Easy Finisher
products is that at long last wood turning has
been greatly simplified. Now the user still has to learn about
"tooling", but it will not be as scary, and the number of gouges
required significantly reduced.

Woodturning instructors have found that when they use Easy Wood
Tools to teach students new to wood turning the students are
usually able to safely and successfully complete a project during
their first class. In the past, this could have taken weeks. Through
quickly building their confidence, it encourages them to keep coming
back for more classes.

The unique geometries of the
Easy Wood Tools and the approach
taken to the physics of woodturning, helps the new turner to quickly
achieve results. All of the
Easy Wood Tools have carbide cutter
heads, with four cutting edges on the square cutter heads and one,
the full circumference, on the circular cutter heads. It is the superior
design of the tool's cutting head coupled with the strength of the
shaft achieved through the use of stainless steel, together with style
of the handle that addresses the fatigue, safety, and efficiency
issues, like no other type of this tool in the woodturning market.

The
Easy Rougher is designed to effortlessly hog away massive
amounts of material for any woodturning process without the need
for continually returning to the grinder to refresh the edge. The tool
design provides support directly beneath the cutting edge
transferring the cutting pressure downward allowing the lathe to
"take the pounding" that you would normally suffer when using a
conventional bowl gouge for roughing.

No more
"white knuckling" a bowl gouge; and by the way the name
"Easy Rougher"
is some what of a misnomer as it is more than
capable of providing an excellent finished cut! You can cut left, right
or straight in without changing approach angle and require very little
physical strength or exertion. Your feet and hips stay in nearly the
same position for the blank roughing process and with very minimal
handle bouncing on irregular shaped blanks plus reduced kick-back or
sucking into work piece. There are no intimidating cutting angles to
learn and remember, nor the need to invest in a sharpening system.

No bevels to ride, no fear of a dangerous catch and should you need
to make them then truly deeper cuts - up to 1" off the diameter in
one pass can be made. The added advantage of a
Chip Deflector
keeps most projectiles away from the face and neck; they are not
intended as a substitute for eye protection as you are meant to
"look over the Chip Deflector, not through it".

These gouges can be used by children, ladies and gentlemen, those
with physical disabilities and the visually impaired. Even serious
amateur and professional turners, who have been turning for years
with traditional tools, are now benefiting through using them.
