The Legacy Ornamental Mill

Question: What is a Legacy Ornamental Mill?

Answer: Until 2007 the answer to this question was simple, the
Legacy Ornamental Mill is a "five axis wood working tool"
that
uses a router to provide cutting and shaping capabilities.

Very often described as a
"router lathe"; an apt description but
in the hands of an operator with artistic or engineering vision an
understatement, given its many milling capabilities.

The machines have also, for many years, been described as an
affordable bridge between the time consuming use of hand tools,
possibly supplemented with lathe work versus expensive CNC
profiling/turning machines.

Now that statement still holds true with
Legacy's range of three
manually operated models but at the end of 2007 that changed
when
Legacy introduced a range of CNC Up-grade Packages for
the majority of its then current models; the exception being the
entry level
REVO model.

These manually operated machines are extremely versatile and
capable of producing far more than just fancy shaped pieces of
wood. The included illustrations are proof of this point as the
parts shown were produced on a
Legacy manual machine.

Now although the non-CNC machines can produce all of that
shown, with the exception of the carved detail; all can produce
decorated wood in the round, as milled parts, flat panels or a
combination of all these processes. Any creative wood worker
could add crisp simplistic carved detail using templates to
embellish their work.

The introduction at the end of 2007 of
CNC Upgrade Packages
however heralded a major transition for
Legacy from a company
offering a full range of manually operated Ornamental Mills so
that now in 2010 they offer their Professional CNC range of
machines for those professional users that require 24/7 operation
along side their manual or CNC upgrade packages, these are
suitable for the serious amateur user,
all at competitive pricing.
